![]() Using Nosler reloading data for example, a 300 BLK with a 220 gr bullet & 9.5 gr of 2400 will be supersonic 1213 fps while 11.0 gr of 4198 with the same bullet will be subsonic at 1100 fps. More powder also doesn’t matter, which powder and then amount does. More powder or speed doesn’t change the BC. 300 BLK is superior in almost every way for CQB, subsonic.īallistic Coefficient is weight, diameter and form of the projectile. You optimize for the primary mission and the. 277/6.8 with a short 6.75″ barrel and lighter bullet with lower BC. You won’t “rule all over the place” using a. You can’t, at this point in time, optimize for both CQB and long range. ![]() The suppressor also eliminates muzzle flash and helps control muzzle rise and recoil making the user harder to spot during an engagement and making it easier to put their second and third rounds on target respectively.įirst, the primary mission of this weapons is CQB, not long range. The MP5SD is a 9mm suppressed submachine gun that’s widely considered one of the quietest options available for its purpose, which put the LVAW in good company. In terms of sound reduction, the SIG suppressor brings the sound of the LVAW down to a level that almost matches the MP5SD. It also acts as a means to lengthen the barrel and increase the velocity of the round, which is important due to the super short 6.75-inch barrel. The suppressors obviously reduce the signature of the gun while fired (though certainly not to the extent depicted in movies). While the suppressor likely can be removed, it seems feasible that it might be only for maintenance purposes. Without the suppressor, the muzzle blast can damage the handguard. The handguard encompasses the barrel and a portion of the suppressor. In fact, without a suppressor, you could actually damage the rifle’s handguard. But, that is just a theory. The super-short barrel seems odd for a rifle, but keep in mind the LVAW was designed from the outset to be used with a suppressor. It might have to do with WHERE in the ignition cycle TG produces it's highest peak pressure: it peaks closer to primer ignition than further down the barrel like single base powders. It also has the highest nitro content of any common double base powder at about 37%. HOWEVER, Titegroup seems to be the most quiet for loading subsonic 147s despite all the excess heat it produces. Everyone knows that running a supressor wet works because the additive acts as a coolant, right? because single base burns cooler, it SHOULD produce less noise through a supressor. or at least 1.140" A much safer alternative is Tightgroup - for which there is published data with 147s.Īs far as single- vs. It is possible to load it under 147s - but its a hairy load and NOT for blow-back guns (Bad things will happen. There is a ton of info going back 100 years on supressors and reloading at this site: (look around the whole site - you will see N310 mentioned over and over). Titegroup is a great powder, but it burns really hot in comparison to Viht 320 (Titegroup being a double base powder (high nitro content) versus the single base n320). That being said I know a ton of people that run titegroup both suppressed and unsuppressed with good results. I cant remember off the top of my head but supposedly one of the vihtavuori powders was actually designed for 9mm 147 subsonic use. Need someone with experience to help me out here.Īlso, would a lower pressure round make less noise suppressed or is there other things at work here that I am missing?Īny resources pertaining to suppressed hand loading would be of much help also. I understand that there will not be one single load or powder to rule them all but just not sure where to start or what to look for. Is there a powder that works really well for suppressed shooting that I should try to track down that is good for my type load? Would like to use it and see some 9mm sub loads for them. The titegroup and WST I use for 38 special and have a good stock of. The powder on the other hand is tricky to find so it has been hard to settle on one. I am pretty well set on the components I would like to use as I can easily obtain them locally ( brass, primer, bullets ). I want to make some good plinking subsonic loads. I have been handloading for a year now and in a few months will have my new suppressor in hand. Powder: Have Winchester WST and Titegroup ( this is what I am not sure of ) Not sure if this area or the suppressor area would be best for this thread but it seems to be a reloading question.
